Q: What is a stairclimb?
A: Stairclimbs are a new breed of competitive physical events and they are growing in popularity around the world. These "vertical marathons" are a great way to challenge yourself physically.

Q: When is Master the Met?
A: Master the Met takes place on March 1, 2008. The climb starts at 8:00am.

Q: How many floors do I have to climb?
A: There are 42 floors in the Master the Met stairclimb. There will be water and rest floors throughout the climb, if you need a break.

Q: Should I climb alone or form a team?
A: Forming a team is the ideal way to participate in Master the Met. You will have the support of your teammates before, during and after the climb. You're sure to succeed when you compete as a team. Click here to learn more about forming a team.

Q: When and how can I register?
A: Registration is currently open! You can register online and get your team website set up. Click here to register now!

Q: What is the registration fee for this event?
A: There is a $25 registration fee due when you register. An additional $100 in minimum fundraising per person is due by February 20, 2008. A total of $125 must be received in order to participate in the event.  Teams are strongly encouraged to reach the team fundraising goals. All money raised supports the mission of the American Lung Association.

Q: Is parking available for the event?
A: Yes, the Metropolitan Square building has generously donated free parking in their garage for all participants.

Q: Do all climbers start at the same time?
A: No, you will be assigned a start time window. You will line up for the start during your start time window, then one climber is released every 15 seconds to ensure safety in the stairwell.

Q: How is the event timed?
A: Every climber will wear a timing chip. Timing will be provided by FLEET FEET Sports using the DAG system.

Q: Will there be medical personnel on site?
A: Yes, we will have paramedics on site to respond to any medical emergencies that may occur.

Q: Can children participate in Master the Met?
A: Children under 12 may not participate in this event. Children aged 12-16 may participate, but they must climb with a parent or guardian. Adolescents aged 16-18 may participate, but they must have a parent or guardian on site, although they do not have to climb.

Q: Why do we have to fundraise for this event?
A; Lung disease kills 1 in 7 Americans. The American Lung Association is committed to providing research, education and advocacy to help eliminate lung disease. Your contribution will help the thousands of families in St. Louis who face lung disease each day. Don't be intimidated by fundraising...anyone can do it. When other hear how excited you are about this event, they will want to support you!

Q: Can I participate if I am not a competitive athlete?
A: Absolutely, you can enter this event just for fun. Whether you are competing to win, or your goal is just to finish, we guarantee that every participant will have a newfound respect for their lungs!

Q: Can I carry anything with me up the climb?
A: No. Climbers are NOT permitted to carry anything up the stairwell: water bottles, camel packs, backpacks, infants/children, cell phones, cameras or any electronic devices or portable music devices such as MP3 players, iPODs, etc. will not be permitted. This will be strictly enforced.

Q: What happens at the top of the climb?
A: Climbers will celebrate their triumphant climb with a celebration at the Top of the Met. There will be food, beverages, music and more. This is where you will pick up your Master the Met t-shirt as well. When you are finished at the Top of the Met an elevator will take you back to the lobby.

Q: How can my friends sponsor me as a climber?
A: The best way to get people to make a donation to your team is to ASK! People will support your efforts when they know how important it is to you. It is easy to sponsor a climber through our secure online donation system. Simply click on Sponsor a Climber on the Master the Met homepage to get started.

Q: How can I manage my team's progress?
A: Your team gets its own personal webpage to track recruitment and fundraising. Your team captain is responsible for setting this site up. Click here to log into your team's page.

Q: Will there be a gear check in the lobby?
A: The only items that can be checked in the lobby are keys. The key check table will not accept any items other than keys. Please leave all other items in your car. Free parking the garage is available to all participants.
